How do you want to be treated? With respect, right? Respect for your ideas, your differences and your values.
Here are a few things to remember that can help you achieve just that.
- RESPECT YOURSELF. If you don't respect yourself, no one else will.

- BE CONFIDENT, HAVE A MIND OF YOUR OWN. People like people who aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in. Don't do things just to follow the crowd.
- CARE ABOUT THE OTHER PERSON. Pressure isn't cool. If the person you're with doesn't want to do something - don't push. Show that you know your relationship is a two-way street.
- KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER PERSON. People want friends who understand them. Taking time to find out what the other person really wants will make their relationship better.
- BE TOTALLY FREE. Don't get pushed around by what other people say.
- BE ACCOUNTABLE. Forge friendships with people who will support your good choices and can keep you in check if things start to get out of hand.
- SET BOUNDARIES. Know when you are at your weakest. Is it when you are tired? Sad? Lonely? If you drink? Identify these "no turning back" points and keep clear of them. Don't push these boundaries to see if you can hold out - just stay far enough away.
